About us

John is the only instructor at the school which is run together with his wife Julie. They run the courses for rally and racing drivers who want to improve, using snow and ice as a tool to make them better on all surfaces.

John Haugland has over 50 years motorsport experience in race and rally, including 20 years as works rally driver for Skoda. He has 106 international class wins and 6 European Championship Rally overall wins. The school was started the year after he retired from his works drive almost 30 years ago.

John is educated as a car technician and has gained much experience and skill in developing racing and rally cars.  He has monitored new development very closely and knows how to correct technical problems and improve the performance of rally cars.  This knowledge makes him a good teacher in practical and theoretical problems with rally and racing cars.

John has produced pace-notes for rallies and knows how important it is to personalise the pace-notes to bring the crew and the car as fast and as safely as possible through a competition.

The theory part of the course uses his experience and knowledge to cover personal preparation before an event, car set-up, pace-notes and driving technique.

More than 50 years of experience in international rallying and racing has given him contacts in all parts of the world.

His ability to transfer his knowledge to his pupils at the Winter Rally School has resulted in
  -  4 world champions
  -  4 European champions
  -  nearly 200 national champions
